The Unknown Dead

[ of Hurricane Katrina  - Pascagoula, MS   -  2006]

by Rex Yancey

Some questions disturb me
as I stand here today,

They haunt my mind,
They wont go away.

Who are you?
Could you whisper a clue?

Are their friends and relatives looking for you?
Were you afraid in the storm?

Did you struggle in death’s face?
Or did you quietly surrender and die with grace?

I know who you are, you are designed in God’s mold,
shaped in his image, a sheep in his fold.

I don’t know your name, but you are not alone,
We stand here with you as you journey home.

So go with God to a more peaceful shore,
where names are known, and death is no more.
