The USS Phoenix was decommissioned and sold to Argentina. They named it the General Belgrano and it sank during the Faukland Island crisis. |

He served in WWII. He was on the USS Lexington CV-2 aircraft carrier that was hit by a Japanese torpedo during the battle of Coral Sea. He survived and was given the American Defense Service Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal (with 2 Stars), and the WWII Victory Medal. |
