THE LAST WILL AND TESTEMENT OF JOHN FAVER
In the name of God, Amen I John Faver Sen. of Culpeper County and Parish of St. Mark
being well Stricken in years but of perfect Sense and Memory. Do ordain this my Last Will
and Testament in Manner following to wit. First I give my Soul unto the hands of Almighty
God. That gave it me, and my Body to the Earth to be decently Buried by the discretion of my
Executors hereafter mentioned and my worldly Estate in the manner following Vizt., When
my Daughter Henrietta was married to Lewis Yancey Jun.. I lent her a Negro man named
Sharper, now I give the said negro man Shaker to her and her Heirs forever and five pounds
cash after my Wife’s death to be paid her by my Estate. My will and desire is that all my
Negroes and other Estate as it now is remain together so long as my wife lives. For the use
and benefit of maintaining my said Wife Isbelle Faver. The Children of my son William Faver
deceased and their mother so long as she continues a Widow. And after my wife’s death I
lend to my son John Faver , Dinah a Negro woman and her three children, Rose, Judy , &
Spencer during his life and his present wife’s widowhood. At the Expiration of which time. I
give the said negro Woman Dinah and her three Children Rose, Judy, & Spencer and all
their Increase from this date 1779 to the children of John Faver by Ann his present Wife
Daughter of Thomas Covington and Jael his Wife – I give to my Grand Daughter Isabel
Faver daughter of my son William Faver a Negro Girl named Pendor to her and her Heirs
forever but Should She die before marriage her Sister Alice shall be her Heir. I lend Negro
Girl named Rachel about Twelve years old to help to maintain the Children of William Faver
until the youngest Child Rosanna be Eight years old then after the death of my wife, I give
the said Negro Girl Rachel and her Increase to be divided among the Children of John Faver
by Ann his wife to them and their Heirs forever. After the death of my Wife, I give Five
hundred and twenty five Acres of Land I now live on with all the houses and all that Contain
thereon with the remainder of all my Estate to be Equally divided amongst the Children of
William Faver or the Survivors of them their names are, Alice Faver, Henrietta Faver, Isabell
Faver, Frances Faver & Rosanna Faver to them and there Heirs forever. My Will and desire
is that my Negro man Adam shall live with the Children & and Widow untill they all come of
Age. Then he Shall Choose his Mistress out of the five Girls or the Survivors of them and
whatever he may be Valued at by my Executors shall be Equally divided amongst the five
girls or the Survivors of them to be paid by which ever he chooses for his mistress, to them
and their Heirs forever . and lastly my will and desire is that the widow of my Son William
Faver Shall live with the Children on the Land and Plantation during her Widowhood____ I
do hereby constitute and appoint my friends Birkett Davenport and John Williams Executors
of this my last Will and Testament revoking all other heretofore by me made, in Testimony of
which I have here unto set my hand and Seale this 19th day of July 1779.

This last will and Testament of John Faver Deceased was Exhibited to the Court by Berkett
Davenport One of the Executors therein named and was proved by the oaths of John
Storther ; Thos. Latham & Robert Colman Jun. Witnessed thereto and proved to be
Recorded, And on the Motion of the said Executor. Certificate is granted him for obtaining a
probate there of in due form he having made Oath thereto & Given Bond and Security
According to Law. Liberty being reserved for the other Executor to Qualify when he shall
think fit.
