Deedbook 19,l p 349
An indenture, "tripartiti," dated 30 June 1802. Ahab Overby deeded
in trust to Sterling Yancey two negroes: Ned, a blacksmith, and Ned
a boy, for a debt owed to William Yancey Jr. Overby was from
Halifax Co., William Yancey, Jr. was from Halifax Co., and Sterling
Yancey was from Granville Co., NC.

I found a number of Brames in the deed records including a Samuel D.
Brame and wife Elizabeth. He seems to have passed away about 1816,
survived by Eliz., a son (Jr.) and a daughter.

I found the following records of Marriages:
William Yancey to Nancy Sandford 23 DEC 1791 1/22
Wylie Yancey to Judy Ligon 29 Aug 1797 1/35
Philip Yancey to Prisilla Carlton 5 OCT 1803 1/55
Layton Yancey to Rebecca Cook 1 JUL 1805 1/61

In the General index on court orders (in basement) were many
familiar Yancey names: Minge, James, Layton, and Sterling.

Sterling: Defendant in case to reopen road Hico River to Skipwiths
Ferry. 1808 book 26, p 39 case dismissed.

"Ordered that the petition of Sterling Yancey for a new road to be
opened from the road below Hico bridge near John Griffin ? into the
road leading to Sir Payton Skipwiths ferry be dismissed for want of
prosecution." Sounds as if Sterling is still in Mech. Co.

In Will Index:
1792 William Yancey 2/486 assignt
1800 Taby (slave) yancey 6/208 inquest
1820 Philip yancey 12/49 will 12/168 inventory 14/90 account

There was a small book of early marriages 1782-1842; I was told it
was from input by pastors. There was a separate book of an index.
In it I found following:
1797 Yancey, Wiley to Juah Ligon p 123

Layton Yancey to Rebeckah Cook p 185
1792 William Yancey to Nancy Sandford p 70
