In index I found no Yanceys listed. This book was a bound of original clerks records, each page bounded in plastic. The index was old and may not be complete; it probably listed on the deceased and not the other names mentioned. I should look for a more complete index. ************** In Index to Court Orders S to Z, from June 26, 1767 to Jan. 30, 1904. On page 497. Yanceys started July 21, 1800 with James H. Dec 21, 1807, Thornton and William Yancey (By Asgne) were plaintiffs; Richard Johnson, James Hinton, Josiah Fergerson, and James F. Johnson were defendants; 13/80. This index took the Yanceys on up thru 1816. I did not make complete records but some of the first names were--Sterling, Thornton, William, Robert, James (deputy sheriff), Thomas, Layton, W. A. (rites of matrimony), Willie, Nelly, *************** Court Records, 1805-1807; book 12, page 190. June court 1806. (I saw a date of 18 JUN 1806.) Sterling Yancey, Plaintiff; James Chavis, defendant The defdendant being summoned and not appearing altho solemnly called, on the motion of the plaintiff by his attorney, it is considered by the court that the plaintiff recover against the defendant the sum of five pounds four shillings and one penny half penny the debt in the petition mentioned, with interest thereon at six per centum per annum from the 17th day of December 1804 till payment, together with his cost by him in this behalf expense. *************** 12/490 This record is similar to the one above except James Yancey is the defendant; he owed Sterling Yancey for a debt dated 16 Dec 1804. James Yancey did not show up for court and the judge ruled in favor of Sterling Yancey. A Mr. Wilson represented Sterling Yancey. *************** 12/539 Wilson again represented Sterling Yancey in a claim against James Yancey and John Fuqua in the August Court 1807. The judge ruled in favor of Sterling. this writeup was more wordy the the above ones. *************** 13/80 Thornton Yancey, assignee of William Yancey, who was assignee of Evan Echols, who was assignee of Edward W. Smith, defendants; they received a judgement [in my notes I saw the following: p 49-William Yancey, father of Carren C. Yancey wo married Turner 1810. I believe this was in Pittsylvania Co.]
