SANTA FE BLUES

[ Listen to her sing ]

Well where I was when he said he'd be there fishing
Where was I when he said he'd be there fishing
I was standing in the station
I had a bout down here

Said there goes my baby run and call him back
There goes my baby run and call him back
That man's carrying something that I really like

He was a cruel old farmer
A low down dirty engineer
Taking my baby away from me
And he left me standing here
He was a cruel old farmer
A low down dirty engineer
Taking my baby from me
He left me standing there

I asked the conductor
Just to let me ride his blinds *
He says you better buy a ticket girl
This train is none of mine
I asked the conductor
Just to let me ride his blinds *
He said buy yourself a ticket little girl
This train is not none of mine

* "Ride the blinds"  = The area between cars of a passenger train that
has a canvas covering. Riding the blinds was a hobo's way of riding for free.
