Comments:	Just checking in to see updates. Have now completed the genealogy of Daniel and Lena R. (Reyn) Yancey. They are my husband, Lester Chris Yancey's grandparents. Daniel and Lena lived in Belfort, Lewis County, NY until abt. 1910 when the family moved south 100 miles to Wolcott, Wayne Co., NY where they lived out their lives and are buried there in Rose, NY cemetery. Working with cousins, Debra Yancey Miller and Joan Reyn Davis along with some other cousins, we have compiled the family history. Recent research put us in touch with Christian Reyn family in California. Waiting for their help on researching family members in that state. Cooperation of families made many old journals from years since immigration available with family data plus priceless family photos.

Comments:	I am looking for any information regarding the Yancey's of Missouri. Specifically, Jesse (Jessie) M Yancey b. 1919 and d.1992. His father was William, mother was either Etta or Georgia. Siblings were Florence, Ruby, Alex, Effie, Cecil, Alma, Lester. The 1920 census showed their family living in Chariton, Howard, Missouri. 1930 censur showed them living in Carroll, Carolton, Missouri. I married Lester Yancey, of upstate N.Y., and have now almost completed his family line. Challenging, but rewarding, to research where a family came from and who makes up that family tree.

Comments:	A strange request, I realize, but my older brother, James Milton Harris was adopted by a Yancey family either in Cal., Idaho or Oregon when he was 3 yrs. old. Bn. 05-03-1936. 
He died as a child,(10-31-1944)in, or around Cody, Nebraska and is buried @ Prairie Lawn cemetery there. He had another half-sister of mine, Nancy Black/Yancey, who was also adopted by this family, as well as a younger half-brother, (Paul) renamed 'Rick'. They seem to have moved to Idaho, but at 
this time this is all the info. I can find....

Comments:	Upon reviewing a few links of the website I believe that I should mention my spouse John C. Yancey 3rd was African American. As was his father John C. Yancey Jr. and his mother Nodie Mae Anderson-Yancey. There are photos with features that are comparable despite skin shade. Eyes, eyebrows, ear, and forehead structure in my spouse and our children who are fair complected since I am full blooded white. (The asian name comes from a man married to my mother who adopted me and my name was changed) I was born Leslie C. Jayco or alternate spelling Jaco of Tennessee. Strongest features that I notice resemble John Lewis Yancey pictures.

His father was Charles Yancey b. 1630 I believe in Whales.. I feel the politics of the time made those change their name from Nanney??? For all cousins wish for a "Get Together" in order to establish kin.. Since I started this I found 59 names of my relation to the establishment of this country and have 3 Rev War forefathers as well as House of Burgess..

Comments:	My name is Linda Gayle Yancy Monnerjahn. I was born in Wichita Falls, Texas to Effie A. Yancy and Ester Lois Durham. My Grandfather was Oscar Clifford Yancy. He was married to Bennie Gayle Stout. Both of them died when my dad was only 6, so I never knew my grandparents. My great grandfather was George G. Yancy. I was always told that my great grandfather came from Macon GA, to Texas. His father who's name I do not know brought his family to Texas after being involved in a shooting over some live stock. He could not read or write, and as you can imagine, also could not spell. When he moved his family to Texas he made a loan and the man at the bank spelled "Yancey" as Yancy. Our last name should be spelled Yancey. but with the move to Texas the "e" was left out?? I do know that his wife's name was Hattie, and I was always told that the city of Hattisburg, MS was named after her. But I don't know this to be fact. 

I have a brother named Daniel (Dan) A. Yancy, sisters named Patricia A. and Rebecca Lynn Yancy. 

I would like to talk to anyone in the GA area who could confirm any of this information for me. The originator of this site is my nephew Effie (Dan) A. Yancy II.

Comments:	My mother Ruth Yancey married my father John Bradley Winsted. Ruth's father Samuel Marvin Yancey lived in Fayetteville, Arkansas and was married to Rachael Johnston. Sam Yancey founded the Southwest Methodist Conference center on Mt. Sequoya in Fayetteville. Sam had 14 other brothers and sisters. Samuel was the son of Rufus William Yancey and Martha Berniece Gaylor. Rufus was born in 1829 in Giles County TN. He was the son of John Yancey who was married to Elizabeth Lightfoot Moore. They lived in Caswell County North Carolina. John's parents lere Bartlett Yancey Sr who was married to Ann Graves. They also lived in Caswell County North Carolina. Bartlett was born in 1736. I am a trustee of the Yancey graveyard here in Culpeper, which was established in 1710 by Lewis Davis Yancey, a son of one of the original brothers who came here from Wales in 1610. Comments: I've gotten from family info, that traced my lineage back to Samuel Robert Yancey, who died in 1873, and was married to Octavia (Musick,-and another associated name Aranel-possibly outlived gggrandpa and remarried. Samuel Robert Yancey is on a 1860 census in Milton County Ga. Grandad, then later moved to Missippi. It says he was born in South Carolina. Listed in the same census is Dabney Yancey (Spelled without the "e") who appears to be my ggggrandfather). Dabney was born in Virginia.

I have not been working much on my husbands family, the Chris Yancey family of Lewis County, N.Y. Since talking with you my brother-in-law, Clyde Jay Yancey and my sister-in-law, Arletha Yancey Knechtel have both died. Clyde in May 2002 and Arletha in Oct. 2002. Both of heart attacks. So with their deaths my information to the ancestors is reduced. I have tried to contact a first cousin of Lester's but so far all mail is returned as "Unknown". So 
a trip to N.Y. will need to be made for further research on this family.

My name is James "Alex" Yancy, from the William and Sophia Davis Yancey branch of Yancey's. I only found that information by pure accident yesterday (10-21-03), by looking up the name of my grandad, Isaac Newton Yancy, of Ironton, OH. originally from out west in Texas, born in New Mexico. The information was on a website ran by a Dennis Yancey in Miami, Florida. I'm not familiar with a lot of my family history, my Aunt is the one with most of that information. In finding informa2tion about my family going back from father to father, directley since about 1730 I have gained a renewed interest in my heritage. I was especially interested in the connection with the Welsh, Nanney family and its Royal and Celtic heritage. The alledged change of the family name from Nanney to Yancey, is very fascinating. 
I just wanted to thank all of the Yancey's and the others involved in gathering and keeping the heritage of our Family alive. Many people have no idea about their heritage, and I myself, for a long time didn't either. It is nice to be able to look back through the annals of time and see where we have come from, and perhaps, a clue to where we are heading. As a result of what I have learned, I now feel a closer kinship to all Yanceys, regardless of whether there is an "E" or not. I have learned my Great Grandfather was the first in my family to drop the 'E', and his father in fact did have the letter still in the name. So I guess I'm not so distantley related as I once believed.

My father was Bernard Yancey, his was Lemual Godby, his was Calvin, then John Yancey, and finally Zachariah (Uriah?)Yancey b.(1790). Comments:	My maternal grandmother was born Virgie Lucille Yancey in Missouri. She was the daughter of John Thomas and Alvee Etter Yancey. Alvee was his second wife. I know my Nanny had about 15 brothers and sisters. There are quite a few Yancey's buried in Eastland Cemetery in Eastland Co., Eastland, TX. My grandmother, Her half brother Charlie (from J.T.'s first marriage)and his wife Alice. Their son "Dink" is also buried in this cemetery. There are Yancey's in Colorado City also. Wylie Yancey and his wife Lucy have passed, but their duahgters and grandchildren are still there. Ruby Jo Yancey and Beulah Anderson.

Comments:	My mothers name is Betty Ann Henderson, she is the daughter of Opal C Henderson, whos first love was Junior Arthur Yancey. I have been working on a genealogy book, and have come to a stand still on my mothers fathers side. 

My grandmother and grandfather were not married at the time of my mothers birth and they both went their seperate ways and had children by other people. 

What information I have on Junior Yancey is only the knowledge my mother has from her childhood which was very little. We knew he was from Michigan and lived in Boaz, and that my mother had a half sister named Cheryl Bell. 

While searching the net tonite, something inside me told to search for his name, even knowing I had not had any luck in the past. I came across an obituary on your site and now know His death date and his home address and the list of his surviving relatives at the time of his death. 

I searched your site for his ssn and his birthdate, you don't seem to have them. I know Cheryl and her sister are in Tenn. But I again have come to a stand still. 

This weekend mother and I are going to Geraldine to visit his grave and clean it and put flowers on it. Most of all we are seeking his Birthdate. We would like to get ahold of his birth certificate to find out what his parents names were, this shall be extremely hard to do, but without having seen your site the task ahead of me that once seemed hopeless, now seems to have a light at the end of the tunnel.

Comments:	My grandfather was Curtis Henry Yancey Sr, born Feb 10, 1923 in either Illinois or Missouri--I've forgotten. He died Oct 8, 1996 in Owosso, Michigan. He was married to Juanita Marie Penrod Yancey for over 50 years before his passing away. She died Jan 10, 2001 in Owosso, Michigan. They had 3 children who survive them: Marilyn Sue Yancey Wilson, Betty Lou Yancey Kiesling, and Curtis Henry Yancey Jr. They are also survived by 9 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. My grandfather has 2 surviving brothers in Missouri (Clel and Gordan) and 1 surviving sister in Texas (Helen Yancey Brandenburg). Comments:	I would like to make a correction. In my post earlier I wrote Cloud Yancey when it should have been Claude Yancey, my grand-father, he died around 1945 or 1946. He was married to a woman named Linda. Claude had 3 and possibly 4 brothers and 2 sisters. They were William, Clyde, Luie <~~May be spelled wrong, and possbly a Claude Jr. The 2 sisters were Geraldine and Gerrie. 

Clyde Yancey married Minnie Edwards 
and had 3 sons (that are known about, may be more) named George, Clyde Jr. and, Frank Yancey. Frank and George were prison guards for Gwinnett Co.

My Father was Thomas Marshall Yancey. He was born on 3-11- 
1898 and died 5-2-1973 and is buried in a cemetery in 
Silsbee, TX. His wife, Armetha Oliver, Yancey is still 
living at the age of 94 in Murchison, Tx 75778 
Dad had two sister living while I was growing up Stella 
Hall, of Village Mills, TX and Opal Hargraves of Beaumont, 
TX. He had a brother that died as a teenager named Joel. 
His Mother was Emma Huckaby, Yancey and was buried in LA. I 
think, and that is about all I know about my Father's 
family.

Comments: My mother's maiden name is "Yancey", her name is Elizabeth Louis Yancey Haywood. Her father was Benjamin A. Yancey and he grew up in Decatur, Georgia. Joined the army, graduated from West Point with either a mechanical or civil engineering degree. He died in 1968 and was buried in Arlington Cemetry. I have recently contacted my mother's cousin, a John Yancey from Newport News, Virginia and found he has collected a slew of information about the Yancey family. Joel's daughter Sarah Eliz Yancey married John Wilson HAYMOND. Their daughter Leona Elizabeth HAYMOND was my grandmother. Leona was the twin sister of Margaret HAYMOND. Their sister, Rachael "Ratie" Louisa married Charles Nulter in Braxton Co, WV and about 1912 the family moved to Plant City, FL. Some records list Leona with the name Elizabeth. Comments: The Tutts and Yanceys were family friends in Viginia in the 1700s. Our first known American ancestor was Richard Tutt who we know was in Virginia in 1703 when he married Mary Underwood. After the Revolution, some Tutts and Yanceys went with Daniel Boone to Kentucky. Most of the information I have on them came from Dennis Yancey who is listed elswhere on your page. A great site. Comments: I am Yancey descended from the Yancey's currently based in Umatilla, Florida. I am also a direct descendent of William L. Yancey of Alabama (the Civil War Senator). I am curious what information you have about this branch of the Yancey family tree. My father's name is William and my grandfather (passed away 1 year ago) is Charles. Charles was born and raised in the Umatilla clan. The resident geanealogist of the Umatilla Yancey's was Elizabeth Yancey (she passed away about 3 years ago). Yanceys....and there are many of them. My father was Earl Yancey, son of Dee Johnson Yancey and Neva Reeves Powell Yancey. Papaw Dee had many brothers, among them Henry,Lemuel, Leroy, Van to name a few. I will get with my relatives and fill in some of the gaps in the Scott County line. The only Yancey I remember meeting was my grandmother and the last time I saw her was when I was five years old. Turner is a surname with "Indian" connections in that territory and time period, now does anyone have a link of the Yancy name to the native people not just to the Welsh? It could be a very interesting path for the Yancy linage, since Younce is connected to the Cherokee.
