Thanks to all for the hard work it took to get this together. Sam and Mary and I have already corresponded regarding my information about Daniel and Abraham. I still have nothing new on them. I hope to get to the library soon and will let you know if I come up with new details. I just wish I could get the puzzle about the Ester James connection worked out. That is truly a mess. Again thanks for a wonderful piece of work." And from Cousin Neil: "best wishes..........the newsletter is great! Neil" In following up on Cousin Rich's suggestion for a Field get-together (refer to the 1st newsletter) we are in the early planning stages of one to be held in the fall in the Washington D.C. metro area. If you are interested in helping to plan and/or participate, please e-mail us. Also, as people receive the directory, they may want to have a mini get-together with Fields in their area. Please do so and write about it for your online cousins! Cousin Phebe passed along the following: For those descendant from Col. John Fields; every year at Pt. Pleasant, WVA on the 10th of Oct. is a ceremony to honor those that died at Point Pleasant -- this year it will be held on Sunday, October 8 at 2:00 p.m. It is sponsored by the SAR and DAR and delegations from six or seven states are expected to participate. ********* >From the 1939 Index of the Rolls of Honor (Ancestor's Index) in the Lineage Books of the NSDAR, vol. 81-120; index III. Taken from _Ancestors of American Presidents_, compiled by Gary Boyd Roberts, 1989 Note: He has the wrong parents for Robert Field, showing them as Col. John and Anna (Clark) Field. John Field of Louisa Co. has been established as Robert's father through wills and deeds in Louisa and Albemarle counties. ******* Wives of Robert Field: Genealogists seem to agree that Sarah GREEN was the second wife of Robert FIELD (ca1732-1824). It has been generally accepted that he had three children by his first wife, whose name is still a matter of speculation. However, Edward Sprague Jones, a professional genealogist from New York City, asserts Robert's first wife was Betsy COFFEY. If true, Betsy would have been the mother of at least five of his children: Mary (b. ca1762), Elizabeth (b. ca1764), Sarah (b. ca1766), Jane (b. ca1772), and (Capt.) John (1774-1833)--ancestor of Pres. Bush. His reasons for his believing she was Robert's wife and the mother of those children are based on the following dates: The will of John Coffey of Albemarle Co., VA, was written in Mar 1775 and proved 31 Mar 1777. In it he names his wife, Jean, and a daughter, Betsy FIELD, so a daughter who married a Field was still alive in 1775. He also thinks John Coffey was probably the John Confey [sic] on a list of surveys dated Jun 1746 - June 1747, Albemarle Co. for 150 acres. His source was Magazine of Virginia Genealogy, vol. XXIII, p. 276. ******** Queries: Sam and Majie are desperately trying to find: Estes Genealogy; The Estes Families of Old Clay County, Missouri; Their Ancestors and Their Descendants by Edward N.
