Contrary to Mrs. Kennon's doleful expectations, Sally Walker (or more properly speaking, Sarah Hylton Walker) lived to a very ripe age and a few years later than the date of Mrs. Kennon's letter, married Edmund Hall Vaughn of Mecklenburg Co., Virginia, and went with him, first to Henderson Co., Ky., later going to Shelby Co., Tenn., where both died, he in 1838, and she in 1864. She was the youngest child of Colonel Henry Walker of Mecklenburg Co., and of his wife, Martha Bolling Eppes, and at the time of the birth of this youngest child in 1790, the eldest child, Jane Walker was the wife of John Shaw Feild, and the mother of two children." >From the _Virginia Magazine of History and Biography_ Vol. 34, p. 367: >From a section titled "Trent" "(Alexander Trent, whose will was proved in Cumberland about 1750, mentions his son Peter Feild and wife Frances, who, her granddaughter Mrs. Wilson, of 'Bonbroke,' Cumberland, writing about 1800, says she 'thinks' was an Archer, and that through her the Trents were related to the Turpins, Archers, Feilds, and Jeffersons. Although the only possible asumption would seem to identify Frances Trent as the daughter of John Archer, 1st, and Martha Feild--married about 1700--the 'Richmond Critic' of May 9, 1889, in what I am told is the only published account, does not include her among their issue, naming only three sons.) ****** We have attempted to compile a complete list of 17th century FIELD (various spellings) immigrants. Some 18th century immigrants will appear later in another issue, when we provide further land grant extractions from _Cavaliers and Pioneers_ by Nugent. If you can add to this compilation, please send the information to either Sam Brown or Majie Alley , and we will publish it in FCO. Many of the people appear more than once when they are found in different sources. Some people made more than one trip to the colonies. Every time they came over, they, or their sponsors, would receive a patent for importing them. So some of these people are probably the same individuals making multiple trips. Many thanks to Cousins Kim Sweeney and Matt Madigan for their help with this project. ****** >From _The Complete Book of Emigrants_ by Peter Wilson Coldham, 1987: p. 138 Thomas FELD (18) departed London Apr 1635 for the Island of Providence on the Expectation p. 148 John DICKENSON (22) departed London 6 Jun 1635 for VA on the Thomas and John [According to Pierce's _Field Genealogy_, John was Henry Field's relative and traveling companion -MMLA] p. 163 John FELD departed London 21 Aug 1635 on the George p. 168 Henry FEELD (25) departed London 2 Oct 1635 to St. Christopher's p. 170 John DICKENSON (24) departed London 20 Nov 1735 (with Henry FIELD 24) for Barbados on the Expedition p. 192 Richard FIELD to Virginia on the Elizabeth and Sarah Feb 1638 p. 432: "15 Aug 1659 John FAILEY of Cornwall, yeoman, bound to Elizabeth Britton to serve 4 years in VA." -------- >From _Early Virginia Immigrants 1623-1666_ by George Cabell Greer, 1960. He said that Henry's cousin, Thomas, had come to VA the previous April on the same ship. One Tho. Was either Francis or Sarah married first to someone else? Who is Rodes FIELD, age 7, living with Francis and Sarah in the 1850 Scott County, Kentucky census? What happened to him, as no further mention of this child has been found? Does anyone know if there were any FIELDs in Jennings County, Indiana - a Sarah Ann "Sallie" SUTPHIN married a Wilkerson SHORT 26 September 1839. Could this be the same Sarah SUTPHIN who married Francis Moss FIELD? Also seeking birthdates of Mary Ellen FIELD, Margaret A. FIELD, John W. FIELD, Sally F. FIELD, and Lina FIELD, all children of Francis Moss FIELD and Sarah Ann SUTPHIN. Bonnie Jones Graham 3002 Brittany Place Anchorage, Alaska 99504 JSBJG@ACAD1.ALASKA.EDU I have Mary Elizabeth Fields in my line. She married Stephen Caudill. From a Web site by Chesnut, Mary is listed as born in 1690 perhaps in Scottland. Their son is James Caudill, Sr. married to Mary Yarborough. James is believed to be born in 1720 in Scotland but came to Virginia. If any of these names look familiar I'd appreciate hearing from you. Debbie Moore inteltrn@castles.com
