Judge Lewis Morris 1698 - 1762.

Holy Bible in Dutch; it is probable that this is the edition published at Dordrecht by Jacob and Pieter Ker in
1714 but we have not been able to verify the imprint of the records, as the Bible is in storage.

Contains the records of Col. Lewis Morris (1698-1762), Judge of the Admiralty, and his two wives, Trintje
Staats and Sarah Gouverneur, with their descendants.  It is now the property of Alexander Rutherfurd, Esq.,
of Old Lyme, Conn., a great-great-grandson of Col. Morris.

I begin the Year 25th of March

I was born at Tinton In New Jersie in the year 1698 the 23rd of September my wife was born at New York
the 4th of April in the year 1697.

I was married by William Vesey the 17th day of March 1723 to Mrs. Trintje Staats Daughter to Dr. Samuell
Staats.

My Daughter Mary was born the first day of November 1724 after one of the clock in the morning christened
by John Bartow, my father godfather my mother and my sister Coymans godmothers.

My son Lewis was born the 8th day of April 1726 at half an hour after ten of the clock at night, was
christened by Robert Jenny Mr. Weymans and cap't Vincent Pearse godfathers Sister Gouverneur godmother.

My Son Staats Long was born the 27th day of august 1728 at a quarter after one in the morning ans was
christened by Parson Ovens chaplain of the garrison cap't Robert Long and my Brother John godfathers My
Sister Ann Elizabeth Schuyler godmother.

My Son Richard was born the 15th Day of August 1730 at a quarter after Eight in the Evening, was
christened by parson Ovens chaplain of the garrison Mr. Joseph Murray and Mr. Gilbert Willett godfathers
and my sister Mary Pearse godmother.

My wife departed this life the Eleventh Day of March 1731 aged 35 years after a violent Illness for nine
days.

My daughter Mary was married the 9th Day of March Ano Dom 1743 to Thomas Lawrence Jun'or of
Philadelphia by Thomas Standard Minister of the parish of Westchester.

The 3rd Day of November 1746 I was married to Mrs. Sarah Gouverneur by Thomas Standard minister of the
Parish of Westchester.

The 3rd Day of February 1747/8 my wife was Delivered of a Daughter at half an hour after Eleven of the
clock at night was christened by Thomas Standard Named Isabella My Mother and Mrs. Margarett
Gouverneur godmothers and my Brother Robert Hunter Morris godfather.

The twenty Third of November 1749 my wife was Delivered of a Daughter at half an hour after four of the
clock in the afternoon.  She was christened by Thomas Standard The 10th of December 1749 Named Sarah  
Mrs. Low and my Son Lewis's wife stood godmothers and my son Lewis godfather.

The 30th of January about half an hour an hour after one of the clock in the Morning in the year 1752,
according To The alteration of The Stile by act of Parliament, my wife was Delivered of a son he was
christened The 4th of May 1752 and Named Gouverneur after my wifes father, Nicholas Gouverneur and
my Son Staats were his godfathers and my Sister Antill his godmother. Parson Achnuty christened him.

The 10th Day of September 1753 at five of the clock in the morning My wife was Delivered of a Daughter.  
She was christened The 8th Day of October 1754 and Named Euphemia after my Sister Morris My Sister
Morris and Sister Graham were her godmothers and my son Richard her godfather Moley Ashfield Stood
Proxy for Mrs. Morris and i stood proxy for my Son Richard he being Sick at York, Parson Achmuty christened
her.

The 30th Day of January 1757 at 15 minutes after Nine of The clock in the morning my wife was delivered
of a Daughter She was christened The Second Day of March 1757 and Named Catherine after the Dutchess
of Gordon The Dutchess of Gordon and my Daughter Lawrence were godmothers and my son in [law]
Lawrence her godfather Mrs Sarah Low stood proxy for the Dutchess of Gordon and Mrs. Margarett
Governeur stood proxy for my Daughter Lawrence and my Son Richard for Thomas Lawrence She was
christened by Doctor Johnson.

Col. Lewis Morris Judge of the Admeralty died July 3rd 1762 at Morrisania aged 64 -a'3 of t Clock A. M.

On the first day of December in the year 1776 Catherine Morris departed this lifeaged 19 years and 10
months.

On the fourteenth day of January 1786 Mrs. Sarah Morris relect of col Lewis Morris died at Morrisania aged
71 & 3 months.

On the twenty second day of January 1798 Lewis Morris of Morrisania died aged seventy one years nine
months & fourteen days.

The ages of the children of Lewis and Mary Morris the time they were Married and by whom.

I was married to Mary Walton on the 25th of September 1749 by Henry Bartley - She was eldest Daughter
of Jacob Walton.  I was born at old Morrisania April 8th 1726 and my wife was born at New York May 14th
1727.

My daughter Mary born September 6th 1750 forty five minutes after five of the Clock in the afternoon
Christened by Henry Bartley.

My Daughter Catherine born March 3rd 1752 at half an hour after ten of the Clock at Night - Christened by
Henry Bartley -

My Son Lewis born May 3rd 1754 at six o'Clock in the Morning and Christened by Henry Bartley, Godfathers
Richard Morris and William Walton Jun'or Godmother Magdalane Johnston.

My Son Jacob born December 28th 1755 at 7 o'clock in the morning christened by Henry Godfathers David
Johnston and Jacob Walton - Godmother Catherine Thompson.

My Daughter Sarah born December 20th 1757 at 9 Clock at night christened by Parson Huss. Godfather
Capt. William Little Godmothers my wife's mother and my Brother in Law William Walton's wife.

My Son William Walton born April 28th 1760 ten o'Clock in the afternoon Christened by Parson Aucmudy
Godfathers Thomas Walton and Thomas Hays. Godmothers my Brother Richards wife.

My Daughter Magdalane born November 20th 1761 twelve o'clock in the morning Christened by Parson Miller
Godfather Isaac Wilkins godmothers Mrs Graham and Isabella Morris.

My Son Staats born June 30th 1763 between the hours of 8 & 9 at night Christened by Parson Miller -
Godfathers Mr. Isaac Willett and Col'n Staats Morris.

My son James born August 25th 1764 eleven o'clock at Night Christened by Parson Miller - Godfathers
Abraham Walton and Thomas Lawrence his Sister Mary godmother.

My son Richard Valentine born 8th March 1768 Christened by Parson Seabury Godfathers Gerard Walton &
John Marston Godmother Rachael Marston.
