80 years Dic 7th 1950.

Miss Carrie McCarter, 90, 409 N. Division street, died at 11:30 Wednesday morning after a long illness.
She was born July 23, 1867, in Winnebago county and lived in Appleton the last 58 years.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 Friday afternoon at the Wichmann Funeral home, with burial in Riverside
cemetery. The Rev. Ralph Taylor Alton, pastor of First Methodist church, will officiate. Friends may call
after 2 o'clock this afternoon at the funeral home, where the Rebecca lodge will conduct a service
at 8 o'clock tonight.
Survivors include two brothers, Roy McCarter, Appleton, and Charles McCarter, St. Petersburg, Fla.
[obit] Aged Man Fatally Hurt
Joseph McCarter Is struck By Northwestern Road Switch Engine on North Division St., Crossing, Is
Removed to Hospital and Dies of Injuries a Few Hours Later.
While crossing the railroad sidetrack on North Division street last night about 4:50 o'clock, Joseph
McCarter, 729 North Division street, aged 80 years, was struck by a switch engine of the Chicago &
Northwestern Railroad and sustained injuries which caused his death at St. Elizabeth's hospital a few
hours later. Mr. McCarter was on his way home at the time and as he started to cross the tracks,
Michael Goode, the flagman stationed at the crossing noticed the approaching train and shouted to him
to stop, but the aged man evidently failed to hear him and kept on his way. Before Mr. Goode could
reach him, Mr. McCarter had been struck and thrown violently to the ground. The engine was going south
from the stock yards and was going very slowly at the time and came to a stop within a few feet of where
it struck the unfortunate man. The police ambulance was called immediately and the injured man was
taken to St. Elizabeth's hospital where an examination of his injuries revealed a broken leg, fractured
shoulder and badly bruised back and head. These with the shock and his advanced years caused his
death at 7:30 o'clock last evening.
The deceased has been a resident of Appleton for many years and was well known. He is survived by two
daughters, Mrs. B. Drew, Bloomville, Wis., Miss Carrie McCarter Appleton; three sons, John of Appleton,
Charles of Shawano; and Roy of this city.
The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the late residence at 729 North Division
street. Interment will be made at Riverside cemetery.
