aged Woman Passes Away
Mrs. Helen L. Carr, wife of the late Silas Bresee, died at the home of her son, Nelson here
May 25th in the 88th year of her age, after a long illness. The funeral was held at the
house at 2 o'clock May 27th, Rev. Herberts Charters officiating. The bearers were four of
her sons. they were Leslie S. Bresee, Nelson B. Percy B. and Howard H., the later of
Cowansville, the other three named of Sutton. Another son George G. Bresee lives in
Waterloo. Besides the five sons, who survive are two daughters, Mrs. W. d. shepard of
East Farnham and Mrs. Ella Harvey of Knowlton. Two brothers, G. N. Carr of Sutton and
Dyer A. Carr of North Hatley survive. Also one sister, Mrs. F. A. Chamberlain survives.
Deceased was born in Richford and lived there until she was sixteen years of age. After a
few years in West Brome, the rest of her life was in Sutton. She was a most worthy woman
and leaves a family of children and grandchildren that are a credit to her and the country.
Deceased was buried at West Brome beside her late husband.
Among those from a distance at the funeral were her five sons and two daughters, also
Mrs. W. D. Shepard of East Farnham, Mrs. Ella Harvey, Rev. E. M. Taylor, M. A., Jesse
Marshall and wife, all of Knowton, Mrs. J. D. Anderson of Boston, Harvey Placey and wife of
Passumpsic and Wm. Salisbury of Berkshire.

Sutton, Que., June 6. __ One of the highly respected citizens of his place in the person of
Mrs. Helen L. Carr Bresee passed away on Wednesday night, May 25th, after a lingering
illness of some months.
The late Mrs. Bresee was the widow of the late Silas Bresee, who predeceased her some
years ago. She was born in Richford, Vt., on October 26th 1839, where she lived sixteen
years, after coming to Sutton where she was married and lived most of her life here and
West Brome, having nine children, two Jessie and William dying in infancy.
A short service was conducted at the house, Rev. H. Carters officiating at two p.m. on
Friday, May 27th.
She leaves to mourn the loss of a loving and kind mother, five sons and two daughters,
namely: - Mrs. Ella Harvey, Knowlton; Leslie Bresee, of Sutton; G. G. Bresee, Waterloo;
Nelson Bresee, of Sutton, with whom she lived; Howard Bresee, of Cowansville; Mrs. W. D.
Shepard of East Farnham; and Percy Bresee, of Sutton, all of whom were present at the
funeral. Also two brothers and one sister survive, Mr. Geo Carr, of Sutton; D. A. Carr, of
North Hatley; and Mrs. S. Chamberlain, of Sutton.
The bearers were her four sons Messrs Percy, Nelson, Leslie and Howard Bresee.
The floral tributes were beautiful and showed the high esteem in which she was held.

Nelson B. Bresee of Sutton Dies Suddenly
Nelson Byron Bresee, a highly respected resident of Sutton Village passed to his long rest
on Tuesday, May 22nd in his sixty-third year. Mr. Bresee was an employee of the C. P.
Railway. He took a severe cold which developed into pneumonia, which carried him off. He
was a life long resident of Sutton. His funeral took place on May 24th under Masonic
auspices, Rev. Archdeacon Charters officiating. The bearers were the Messrs. Ernest
Newton, Robert Miltimore, Ira Hunt, G. A. Morrison, Hale C. Reid and Albert G. Brown.
Interment in Fairmount cemetery. His wife, an invalid survives, also three daughters. The
daughters are Mrs. Harvey Placey of Passumpic, Vt., Hazel and Ruth are residents of this
village. He is also survived by two brothers, both residents of Sutton.
Mr. Bresee was a quiet, industrious man with a large circle of friends and he will be much
missed by all who knew him. While his daughters will have the sympathy of a large circle
of friends in the great loss they sustained.

Sutton, June 9. -- The death occurred on May 22nd of Nelson B. Bresee, a native of this
town who, except for a few years spent at Kingsbury, lived in Sutton all his life.
Mr. Bresee was born on March 23rd, 1871, and was married in 1901 to Alice Susan Kendall.
He leaves to mourn his passing, three daughters, Mrs. H. Placey, Miss Hazel and Miss Ruth
Bresee; four brothers, Leslie, George, Howard and Percy, and two sisters, Mrs. Ella Harvey
and Mrs. William Shepard.
The funeral service was held at Grace Church, Archdeacon Charters officiating.
The Masonic funeral was conducted by Lodge 39, A.F. and A.M., of which lodge Mr. Bresee
was a valued member.
The great profusion of floral tributes testified to the esteem in which deceased was held.
This community was shocked by the death of an old and respected citizen, Mr. Nelson
Bresee. Mr. Bresee was a C.P.R. employee and returned from work on Saturday and died on
Tuesday, May 22nd. Much sympathy is felt for his family.
Mayor Percy Brissee Of Sutton, 67, Is Dead

Sutton, November 14. - Mayor Percy Brisse, of this township, died suddenly at the wheel of
his automobile yesterday evening from a heart attack. He had just halted the vehicle
outside the Town Hall here to attend a wedding reception given for one of the employees
on his farm when he succumbed.The 67-year-old mayor held that office since 1940 and had
been on the town council since March, 1933. He was born and educated in Sutton.
The body is resting at the family residence here. Funeral service will be held on Saturday at
2.30 p.m. from the United Church of Sutton to the Sutton Cemetery.Surviving are his wife,
the former Lila Derby; two sisters, Mrs. Ella Harvey of Montreal and Mrs. W. Sheppard of
East Farnham; and two brothers, Mr. George Brisse of Foster and Mr. Leslie Brisse of
Sutton.

13, on hearing of the death of P. B. Bresee. Although in poor health
for three years, his death was unexpected. With his wife and friends he had attended a
church wedding and reception. On leaving the hall about 10:30 p.m. to return home he had
only started his car when he collapsed and passed away very suddenly.
Mr. Bresee was the son of the late Silas and Helen Carr Bresee, and spent most of his life
in Sutton, with the exception of seven years when he owned and operated a farm in North
Hatley.
In 1911 he married Lila E. Derby. Twenty years ago he purchased the V. N. Dyer farm,
where he was a successful farmer until the time of his death.He was a man of sterling
character and was always interested in all public affairs. He had been a councillor for nine
years and was serving his second term as mayor.
He leaves his wife, two brothers, two sisters, and several nieces and nephews to mourn his
passing.
The funeral, which was largely attended, was held at the united Church, with a prayer
service for the family at the home, with Rev. H. G. Douglas officiating.
Interment was made in the Fairmount Cemetery.
The flowers were numerous and beautiful, silent testimonies of the esteem in which the
deceased was held.
The councillors attended in a body. Relatives and friends were present from Montreal,
Sherbrooke, Waterloo, Cowansville and other places.
The bearers were Messr. Homer Salisbury, Milton Darbe, Cedric Morrison, Frank Harvey,
Lloyd Hawley and John Milton.
Died- Bresee - At Waterloo, on the 16th December 1906, Hope, youngest daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. G. G. Bresee, aged 10 months and 10 days.
