ADDITIONAL NOTES:

================

1) VARIOUS PERSONS HAVE GAINED MEMBERSHIP IN THE D.A.R. BEING DESCENDED FROM AND CLAIMING MILITARY SERVICE/SUPPORT FOR THE FOLLOWING YANCEYS.

ROBERT YANCEY (son of JEREMIAH & MARGARET MULLINS YANCEY)

ROBERT YANCEY (son of RICHARD & MARY [BOLLING?] YANCEY)

RESEARCH WOULD INDICATE THAT THESE TWO ROBERT YANCEY'S HAVE BEEN CONFUSED WITH CAPT. ROBERT YANCEY - THE SON OF LEWIS DAVIS YANCEY OF CULPEPER WHO DID SERVE IN THE MILITARY. THERE ARE NO RECORDS TO INDICATE THAT EITHER OF THESE TWO YANCEYS EVER SERVED DURING THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR.

2) PERSONS HAVE ALSO GAINED MEMBERSHIP IN THE D.A.R. CLAIMING DESCENT FROM ONE JOHN YANCEY (SON OF ROBERT YANCEY AND PHILADELPHIA JONES OF MECKLENBURG COUNTY, VA) WHO MARRIED MARY HAMBLIN. ALTHOUGH NO EXTENSIVE RESEARCH HAS BEEN DONE ON THE MATTER, IT WOULD SEEM VERY QUESTIONABLE THAT HE EVER SERVED AND IT WOULD SEEM THAT HE HAS BEEN CONFUSED FOR OTHER JOHN YANCEYS WHO DID SERVE.

3) PERSONS HAVE ALSO GAINED MEMBERSHIP IN THE D.A.R. CLAIMING DESCENT FROM ONE ENSIGN CHARLES YANCEY WHO MARRIED A MISS DUMAS. AS DISCUSSED IN "EARLY YANCEYS IN AMERICA" THERE IS NO EVIDENCE THAT SUCH A YANCEY-DUMAS MARRIAGE EVER EXISTED AND IT WOULD SEEM THAT MANY HAVE CONFUSED THIS CHARLES YANCEY WITH CHARLES YANCEY OF CULPEPER COUNTY (SON OF LEWIS DAVIS YANCEY) WHETHER EITHER OF THESE TWO CHARLES EVER SERVED OR SUPPORTED THE MILITARY DURING THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR IS QUESTIONABLE.

4) WHETHER LEWIS DAVIS YANCEY (OF CULPEPER) EVER ACTIVELY SERVED IN THE MILITARY DURING THE REVOLUTIONARY YEARS IS UNCERTAIN. RECORDS DO REFER TO ONE CAPT. LEWIS YANCEY OF CULPEPER IN THE MID 1770'S. WHETHER THIS REFERS TO LEWIS DAVIS YANCEY SR. OR HIS SON LEWIS YANCEY JR. IS UNCERTAIN. RECORDS, HOWEVER, WOULD INDICATE THAT HIS SON LEWIS YANCEY JR. COULD POSSIBLY HAVE SERVED DURING THIS PERIOD.

5) THERE ARE VARIOUS RECORDS OF PERSONS BY NAME "JOHN YANCEY" SERVING DURING THE REVOLUTIONARY ERA. DETERMINING WHICH RECORDS REFER TO WHICH "JOHN" IS VERY DIFFICULT. IT WOULD SEEM HOWEVER THAT BOTH JOHN YANCEY SR. OF CULPEPER (SON OF LEWIS DAVIS YANCEY) AND HIS SON JOHN YANCEY JR. SERVED IN THE MILITIA. THERE IS ALSO RECORD OF ONE JOHN YANCEY (SON OF ARCHELAUS YANCEY OF LOUISA COUNTY VIRGINIA) WHO'S WIFE FILED FOR A PENSION FROM SUMNER COUNTY, TENNESSEE - BUT THE ORIGINAL FILES HAVE BEEN LOST AND NOTHING PRECISE IS KNOWN AS TO HIS SERVICE. THERE IS ALSO A RECORD OF ONE JOHN YANCEY AS BEING IN THE NORTH CAROLINA MILITIA IN 1754. THIS MAY BE THE SAME JOHN YANCEY WHO DIED IN LUNENBURG COUNTY, VIRGINIA IN 1762 (SON OF CHARLES YANCEY OF HANOVER).
